It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Alexander Lutzi, (72) who passed away peacefully on September 9, 2025.
Alex was born on May 15, 1953 in South Nassau, New York to Alexander Lutzi and Amelia Laita. He lived a life marked by kindness and humility, unselfishly sharing his big radiant smile and great sense of humor. He was known for his dedication to others, including the service to his country and to the communities he called home.
Alex's lifelong career was in law enforcement in San Diego. He worked first for the San Diego Police Department. During his SDPD tenure he earned several accommodations but most notably was a member of the inaugural SDPD SWAT team, earning SWAT Officer of the Year. Having lost his training officer in the line of duty, Alex was also involved in establishing the Fallen Officer Memorial as well. He retired from the San Diego District Attorney's office working as an investigator, he successfully applied his extensive police background, skills and insights to this new role, taking great pride in his work.
Outside of his professional life, Alex was passionate about his love of golf, his beloved Chargers, his Catholic faith, cooking and entertaining.
His retirement at The Hideout gave him the pleasure of filling his father, Alex Sr.'s shoes. In his Pro Shop Manager role, he again served his new community in numerous ways, making friends with those he met and turning all into new family once more.
Above all, he was a devoted partner, father, grandfather, and friend. He cherished time spent with his loved ones. His presence, wisdom, good humor, and gentle spirit will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
Alex is survived by his beloved partner, Jill; his loving furbaby, Christy Ann; his children, Alex (Ashley) and Ariana (Matt); his grandchildren, Mick, Olivia, Camilla, Alex, Hunter, and Reagan; his sister, Jeanne; his nieces, Janine and Jennifer; and many other cherished members of his extended family.
