Andrew A. Kettel, Jr., 76, of Clarks Summit, passed away Tuesday morning at Marywood Heights following a long illness surrounded by the love of family, leaving behind a legacy defined by service, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family and community. His wife of 52 years is the former Judith Sartor.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Andrew A. and Ruth Schreiber Kettel, he was a graduate of South Catholic High School and The University of Scranton.

A beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend, Drew touched countless lives through both his professional career and his personal commitment to helping others. Those who knew him best will remember his warm smile, generous spirit, and genuine concern for the well-being of everyone he met.

Drew devoted more than four decades of his professional life to Penn Security Bank & Trust Company, where he built a distinguished career. During his tenure, he held numerous leadership positions, including Executive Vice President and Head of the Private Banking Division. Respected for his expertise, integrity, and mentorship, he was a trusted advisor to colleagues, customers, and community organizations throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Drew shared his knowledge and experience as an instructor at Lackawanna College, University of Scranton, and Penn State Worthington Scranton, helping to prepare future generations of financial and business professionals.

Drew's commitment to community service was evident throughout his life. He devoted many years to the Greater Scranton YMCA, serving on its Board of Directors for 17 years. During that time, he held numerous leadership roles, including Treasurer, Chairman of the Finance Committee, and President of the Board. Drew took pride in being a member of The Knights of Columbus, where he earned the designation of Fourth Degree. He also participated in local community development initiatives that supported neighborhood revitalization, affordable housing, and homeownership opportunities throughout the Scranton area.

In 2012, Drew embraced a new chapter by assuming responsibility for the family's cherished business, Brier's Market. Continuing a proud family tradition, he operated the store not simply as a business, but as a cornerstone of the community. Alongside his sons, brother, and sisters, Drew worked tirelessly to serve thousands of meals to customers and neighbors. Whether greeting patrons at the counter or personally delivering meals in the store van, he approached every interaction with warmth, humility, and a genuine desire to help others. For Drew, service was never an obligation; it was a way of life. He continued this work through 2019, creating lasting memories and meaningful connections with generations of community members.

Beyond his professional and community commitments, Drew found great joy in the outdoors and treasured the time he spent with family and friends pursuing his favorite pastimes. An avid golfer and sporting clays enthusiast, he also loved fishing and hunting, especially when sharing those experiences with his sons. He eagerly anticipated time at his cousin's hunting cabin and fishing trips to Canada with his brother-in-law, Jerry Lucke. These moments reflected Drew's deep appreciation for family, friendship, and the simple pleasures of life.

Above all else, Drew treasured his family. He was a devoted father and grandfather whose greatest pride was found in the accomplishments and happiness of those he loved. His guidance, wisdom, humor, and unconditional love will remain a source of strength for his family for years to come.

Drew's life was a testament to the power of generosity, hard work, and community spirit. Through his leadership, his service, and the countless acts of kindness he performed throughout his life, he leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four sons, Andrew A. Kettel III and Bridget, Clarks Green; Christopher and Keely, Factoryville; Jeffrey and Tammy, Scranton and Michael and Maura, Clarks Summit; his sisters, Andrea Lucke, Scranton; Lisa and Dan Sutter, Ransom Township; his in-laws, Linda and Gerard Joyce, Scranton; Paula Sartor and Rickey Cochrane, Scranton; and Robert Sartor, Clarks Summit; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren who he adored.

He was preceded in death by brother, Thomas Kettel, and brother-in-law and best friend, Jerry Lucke.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. John Lapera on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of St. Gregory, 330 N. Abington Road, Clarks Summit, PA 18411.

Friends may call Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Church.
