Andrew T. Marhevka, 95, Lake Ariel, passed away Friday morning at St. Mary's Villa. His wife was the former Joan Ulbrik who died August 23, 2021. At the time of her passing the couple had been married for 65 years.
Born February 26, 1930, in Dunmore PA, he was the son of the late John and Anna Hudak Marhevka and was a graduate of the Lake Consolidated School in Lake Ariel. He went on to work for the United States Postal Service as a postal carrier for many years. In addition, for many decades he operated a farm growing many acres of vegetables for the family and the surrounding community. He was especially well known for his sweet corn. Andy continued to garden until his passing, supplying vegetables to family and friends.
Andy was a man of deep and great faith and was a lifelong devoted member of the Saint Thomas More-Saint Mary's Parish. He received his first Holy Communion at Saint Mary's Church and became the first altar boy at Saint Thomas More church in Lake Ariel. He went on to serve the parish as a Eucharistic Minister as well as the primary altar server for funerals for more than 20 years only stopping due to the pandemic. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 7403, Lake Ariel.
Andy loved polkas and in his younger years would go polka dancing with his wife Joan. As he got older, he loved to watch and listen to them on television.
Andy will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known him.
Surviving are his sons Thomas Marhevka and his wife Mary, Michael Marhevka and his companion Irene Slovinski, Robert Marhevka and his wife Robin, Andrew Paul Marhevka and his wife Jill; and his daughter Kathryn McAndrew, and her husband Patrick; 13 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; his sister Josephine Valenti; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his grandson Craig Marhevka in 2003 along with his brothers and sisters Mary Ostromecki, Ann Haidler, Irene Jalkowsky, Joseph and Cyril Marhevka.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday August 9th at 11AM in the St Thomas More Church 105 Gravity Rd., Lake Ariel.
Friends may call Saturday morning from 10AM until the time of Mass in the church.
Interment will take place in All Saints Cemetery, Hollisterville.
In lieu of flowers the family encourages memorial contributions be made in Andy's honor to his beloved St. Thomas More Church PO Box 188 Lake Ariel PA 18436
