Carlton Ray Smith, of South Canaan, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday morning, June 12, 2026, at the Julia Ribaudo Extended Care Center in Lake Ariel.
Born on September 15, 1950, in Nigeria, West Africa, Carlton was the son of the late Robert A. Smith and Dorothy Lyon Smith. He earned an Associate Degree from Baptist Bible College in Clarks Summit and remained steadfast in his faith throughout his life.
On June 26, 1980, he married the love of his life, the former Linda Black. Together they shared nearly 46 years of marriage and would have celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary on June 26 of this year.
Carlton was a hardworking man who found joy and purpose in serving others. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Amazon as a packaging associate and was also a longtime employee of Gumble Brothers Lumber Company. While he valued hard work, his greatest devotion was to his Lord and Savior. A faithful member of Canaan Bible Chapel, he served as a deacon, treasurer, and Sunday school teacher, dedicating countless hours to the ministry he loved.
Known for his warm smile and welcoming spirit, Carlton never met a stranger. He looked for opportunities to encourage others, lend a helping hand, and pray with those in need. His genuine kindness, servant's heart, and unwavering faith left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Linda Smith; his children, Charity Smith of Clarks Summit, Alan Smith of South Canaan, and Benjamin Smith and his wife, Emily, of Sterling, Virginia; his sister, Ruth Johnson of Glenview, Illinois; his twin sister, Evelyn Fay Schneider of Endicott, New York; and his cherished grandchildren, Sadie, Audrey, and Isaac. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marian Fahs and her husband, Melvin; his nephew, Jonathan Black; and his sister-in-law, Jean Black.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of the Julia Ribaudo Extended Care Center for the exceptional and personal care they provided to Carlton. Their kindness, dedication, and support brought comfort not only to Carlton but also to his family during a difficult time, and they will always be deeply appreciated.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Canaan Bible Chapel, 30 Hemlock Road, Lake Ariel, PA 18436. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Pastor Daniel Henwood and Pastor Nick Schweinsburg. A luncheon will be served immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Carlton's honor to Canaan Bible Chapel or Canaan Christian Academy, both located at 30 Hemlock Road, Lake Ariel, PA 18436.
