David J. O’Hare – July 4, 1948 – April 2, 2024 Veteran
Born July 4, 1948 in Medford, Massachusetts son of the late John P. O’Hare and Alison O’Hare (nee Black). Dave was a graduate of Malden High School and enlisted in the United States Army where he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant (SSG) as a Green Beret in the 8th Special Forces Group (Airborne). Dave obtained an Associate of Business Administration from Lackawanna College and then continued his public service as a mail handler until retirement in 2008 from the United States Postal Service on Stafford Avenue in Scranton where he was known as DAV-O to his co-workers.
Dave was proud to be associated with the O’Hare’s Harriers AAU Cross Country Team which provided high school runners from NEPA the opportunity to compete at regional and national championships in the early 1990’s. Dave was a fan of all the Boston sports teams but was especially happy to celebrate four Red Sox World Series titles and six Patriots Super Bowls during his lifetime. He also enjoyed watching Syracuse basketball and attending NASCAR races.
He is survived by his son and best friend Sean Patrick O’Hare and daughter-in-law Christine Carolyn Kotula. Sisters Joan, Alison, and brother James (Margret) and nephews Robin, Scott, and Kevin and nieces Karen and Maura. He was preceded in death by his brother Mark in 2023.
Sean and Christine would like to thank Dave’s CLP neighbors and friends who helped him tremendously during the late stages of his life, the generosity and kindness will always be remembered.
In accordance with Dave’s wishes, a private family service will be held at a future date in Massachusetts. Memorial contributions can be made in his honor to the Army Emergency Relief organization https://www. armyemergencyrelief.org/ or Wayne County Food Pantry at 323 Tenth Street, Honesdale, PA 18431.
