David K. Schweinsburg

David K. Schweinsburg of South Canaan completed his final mission on March 13, 2024, at
Wayne Woodlands Manor following a long illness. He and his wife Susan (Lewis) would have
been married 59 years in July.

Born in Greenport, NY, in 1943, he was the son of the late William H. and Evelyn (Robinson)
Schweinsburg. He was a 1961 graduate of the Lake Consolidated School and a member of
Canaan Bible Chapel, the American Legion SSgt. Paul A. Sweeney Memorial Post 807, and
The Gideons International. He retired from the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission after 34
years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army; during his six years of active duty he served two
tours in Vietnam, first as a gunner, crew chief on the H-21 Helicopter and second as a pilot
on a CV-II Caribou Transport Aircraft assigned with the Green Berets. He flew supplies into
camps and brought out wounded and fallen comrades, often under active fire. He
commented over the years that he had prayed for courage and safety each time. He went
on to serve 35 years in the Pennsylvania National Guard where he flew various fixed-wing
aircraft and helicopters, retiring with the rank of CW4. He was honored with many air
service awards and received the Meritorious Service Medal upon retirement.

From the time he was a young boy he dreamed of being a pilot and was proud to serve his
country, but his greatest wish was to be remembered as a soldier in the Lord’s Army.
He is survived by son Timothy and his wife Julie of South Canaan; daughters Amanda
Armfield and her husband Greg of Leesburg, VA; Laurie Palkovic and her husband John of
Lake Ariel; Danielle Hoeffner and her husband Andy of Scranton; and Dr. Ashlea Erk and her
husband Dr. Karlin Erk of Upper Black Eddy, PA.

Also surviving are grandchildren Nick and Julianna Schweinsburg; Sarah and Ricky Grant;
Joseph and Jennifer Schweinsburg; Amber and Austin Mills; Lauren Armfield; Cassandra and
Nick LaRosa; Matthew, Jackson and Owen Palkovic; Kayla and Eddie Acevedo, Jr.; Rachel
Hineline and fiancé Tommy Decristan; and Brodie, Wesley and August Erk; great
grandchildren Remi, Rory, Aria, Amara and Wilder Schweinsburg; baby girl Grant is expected
in April.

He was the youngest of five boys and was preceded in death by brothers John, Richard and
Raymond. He is survived by twin brother Fred and his wife Nancy and sisters in law Dona, Elaine and
Margaret, and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Wayne Woodlands Manor for their excellent care. As
David loved to say, “We worked as a team.”
