Derwin C. Brown

Derwin C. Brown of Lake Ariel died Thursday evening at Regional Hospital of Scranton following an illness. His wife of 67 years is the former Lois Hafler.

Born in Gravity, PA, son of the late Paul and Eleanor States Brown, he attended the Lake Consolidated School. He was a member of the Lake Ariel United Methodist Church, former Assistant Chief and lifetime member of the Lake Ariel Volunteer Fire Company, and a member of Salem Lodge 330 F.& A.M. During his working life he had been employed by the Swingle Brothers Feed Mill, PENNDOT, and lastly he retired from the Hanson Corporation in 1992. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors.

Also surviving are his extended family including Linda Malakin and her husband Theodore, Jr. and their children Derwin’s goddaughter Bridget Delemarre and her husband Ed and their daughter Morgan and Theodore Malakin, III and his companion Liz Kedrick; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son Wayne Brown who died in 1972; brothers Walter, Stanley, and Gilbert; a sister Roberta Strackenbein.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday at 10:00am in the James Wilson Funeral Home 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with Pastor Wendy D’Agostino officiating.

Friends may call Monday from 4:00-7:00pm with Masonic Services at 6:45pm.

Interment with Military Honors in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Lake Ariel Volunteer Fire Company Savings Fund P.O. Box 31 Lake Ariel, PA 18436 or to the Lake Ariel United Methodist Church 110 Maple Ave. Lake Ariel.
