Diego J. Allen (62) of Lake Ariel passed away on December 5, 2023 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale. Born in Bangor, ME, he was the Son of the late Arthur and Minnie Allen and was educated in Maine public schools before attending trade school as a welder.
During his life, Diego was employed as a tradesman, before becoming the proud owner of Lake Region Sanitation, and in his retirement, enjoyed spending time traveling, on his boat, working on his antique cars, hunting, fishing, and most importantly: spending time with his grandchildren who were his pride and joy.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Dawn Marie Allen. Also surviving are sons Dennis Smith and significant other Sheila Litzenbauer, and Scott Allen; daughters Elisa Smith and significant other Claudio Azeveto, and Heather Meyer; a brother Coles Allen; Sisters Eva Allen, Theresa Deroose, and Tammy Ramstad; and grandchildren Lamar, Elizabeth “Izzy,” Kianni, Dennis III, Emily, and Chloe.
Diego was preceded in death by a brother Charles, and his son Brandon Allen in 2006.
Funeral Rites will be held at the James Wilson Funeral Home, Gravity Road, Lake Ariel, on Saturday, December 16 at 2PM.
Friends may call from 7-9PM on Friday, December 15, and from 1PM until the start of the service on the 16th.
There will be a Celebration of Life immediately following the service at Big Daddy’s Lounge and Little Mamma’s Kitchen 1608 Cedar Avenue, Scranton, PA.
A private cremation will take place after the service at Lake Region Crematory, and inurnment of cremains will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Donations in Diego’s memory may be made to Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
