Dorothy Penwarden, 87, of Honesdale, passed away Sunday morning at Twin Cedar Senior Living in Shohola, following an illness. Her husband of 58 years William G. Penwarden passed away in 2013. 

Born in Jersey City, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Eccles, Sr. and Olga Gibbons - Markle. Prior to retirement, Dorothy was employed by the Human Resources Center in Honesdale. Dorothy enjoyed playing any type of board or card game and watching her favorite B&W westerns.

 Surviving are her daughters Barbara Carachilo of Hawley, and Cindy Patrisso and her husband Larry of Honesdale; sons William G. Penwarden, Jr. and his wife Linda of North Carolina, Danny Penwarden and his wife Eileen of Scranton, and Keith Penwarden of South Carolina; brothers Joseph Eccles, Jr. and his wife Mary of New Jersey, Tom Eccles and his wife Denise of Honesdale, and Robert Eccles of Honesdale; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 5 great - great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her sister Mary Robinson; son-in-law Leon Carachilo.

Private cremation took place in the Lake Region Crematory at the James Wilson Funeral Home. 

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 29th from 1:00pm - 3:00pm in the James Wilson Funeral Home, 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel.
