Ernest A. Bianco, 90, a lifelong resident of Dunmore passed away after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. His former wife was the late Beverly Moran.
Born on Christmas Day in 1935 in Scranton, Ernie was the son of the late Angelo and Blanche (Genello) Bianco. He was a graduate of Dunmore High School Class of 1953 and was employed by the Tobyhanna Army Depot for 35 years. Ernie was a member of the Memorial Bowling League for 30 years and coached his daughters Missy League softball team at East Scranton. An avid golfer he played in several golf leagues at the Pine Hills Golf Club and spent many winters as a Florida snowbird. His personal best included golfing an impressive 293 days in one year. He was also a two-time winner of the infamous Bianco Family Meatball Contest, a title he proudly held. Above all, Ernie cherished time with his grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Grandpa the Golfer." He especially delighted them with his famous handkerchief mouse trick.
Surviving are four daughters Debra Lonstein; Bonny Capooci and husband, Dave; Mary Goulet and husband, Peter; Rosemarie Lowe and husband, Jack; a son, Joseph; brother, Joseph Bianco; grandchildren Katherine, Marion, Theresa, David, Maria, Natalie, Erica, Stefanie, Sarah, Heather, Julia and Anthony; 9 great-grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Ernest A. Bianco; a sister Ann Marie McCool; a son in law William Lonstein and granddaughter Joan Marie and a grandson Logan.
Friends may call Sunday, January 18, 2026 from 2-5 p.m. at the Vanston and James Funeral Home 1401 Ash St., Scranton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday January 19, 2026 at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church, 801 Taylor Ave., Scranton by Rev. Jeffrey Tudgay, Pastor. Those attending the Mass are asked to report directly to the church.
