Obituary

Fred Schweinsburg, South Canaan, passed away Wednesday morning in the Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton after being stricken ill on Tuesday afternoon in Hamlin. His wife of 59 years is the former Nancy Conklin.

Fred and his late twin brother David were born August 24, 1943 in Greenport, NY, He was the son of the late William H. and Evelyn Robinson Schweinsburg and he was a 1961 graduate of the former Lake Consolidated School, Lake Ariel. After completing his education Fred joined the military and served honorably and proudly in the United States Army. Shortly after he was honorably discharged from his service he went on to eventually have an over 35 year career with Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission.

Fred was well known for generously giving his time and service to his community. . He was a very active member of the Lake Ariel Volunteer Fire Company where he served for many years as First Assistant Fire Chief as well as stepping in as Chief when the company needed him to do so. For his dedication and leadership to the company a lifetime membership was bestowed upon him. He also served as a two term South Canaan Township Supervisor . Fred enjoyed his time out and about in the community visiting with old and new friends alike, especially his lunchtime visits at the McDonald's in Hamlin.  He also greatly enjoyed spending time and working in the shop with his grandson Joey. They were always off on a new adventure. 

Also surviving are his son Carl Schweinsburg; his daughter Robyn Klein and her husband Joseph; grandson Joey Klein; sisters-in- law Susan, Dona, Elaine and Margaret; nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his four brothers, twin David, John, Richard and Raymond; his father and mother in law Gerald and Gertrude Jaggars Conklin; his brother in law Sam Conklin.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11am in the Canaan Bible Chapel 30 Hemlock Rd. Lake Ariel. Military honors will be rendered at the completion of the religious service.

Friends may call Tuesday morning 9:30am to 10:50am in the church.

Interment, private in East Canaan Cemetery.
