George Stelz

George Stelz, 94, of Lake Ariel and formerly of Ocala, FL, and New York, passed away Sunday evening at home. His wife of 60 years, Margaret Flynn - Stelz passed away in 2023.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late George J. and Barbara Oswald - Stelz. Prior to retirement, George was a Deputy Inspector of Building Maintenance for the New York City DEP. 

Dad lived an adventurous life! From racing cars, light weight boxing, and flying planes, to exploring the powers of positive thinking! He was self taught in all aspects of construction, and enjoyed doing wood carving in his spare time. He was also a 3rd degree Mason. Anyone, who knew my dad, knows what a stand up, loyal person he was, and a fierce protector of his family and friends. My parents had a love story only rivaled in fairy tales. And, he couldn't wait to be reunited with my mom in heaven. I'm sure they're up there toasting each other with their favorite Cabernet! We had the honor, of having him with us for the last year and a half of his life. I was a daddy's girl...right to his end of life. For all who loved him, please raise a glass in his memory...Prost!

Surviving are his daughter Barbara Wakely and her husband Chris, whom he loved like a son, of Lake Ariel; son Wayne Stelz and his wife Laurie of Long Island, NY; grandchildren Shyanne, Eric, Scott, and Bobbie; many great grandchildren, his brother-in-law Patrick Flynn of Florida; beloved niece Janet Raimondi of New Jersey; and, many nieces and nephews.

 He also had two sons who preceded him to heaven...George and Paul.

Private Cremation took place at the Lake Region Crematory in the James Wilson Funeral Home, Lake Ariel.

 Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
