Harold W. Baker, 96, of Prompton, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025 at Wayne Woodlands Manor, Waymart after an illness.
Born July 29, 1929, in Catskill, NY to Walter and Dorothea Baker. He was a graduate of Windham-Ashland-Jewett High School and was self-employed as a talented welder and heavy machinery mechanic, who also was a successful small engine repairman. Later on owned and operated Bakers equip in Hensonville which was a successful business in the Catskills in which he provided for his family and community, including being heavily involved in church, built picnic area for the teens on his property, traveled to churches with the living faith singers on the weekend, a group of women who sang and testified in multiple churches across the Catskill area. After selling Baker's equipment in the late 70s he moved his family to Maplecrest , starting a new business dealing John Deere equipment while always working always providing and trusting in Jesus.
He will be lovingly missed by his children: Colleen Fila and her spouse Tim and Dale Baker and his spouse Amy; grandchildren Ben Dutton, Kara Fereno, Jack Fila, and Michael Baker; great-grandchildren Abigail, Aurora, Rowan, and Ilah; nieces and nephews.
Also surviving is Harold's brother, Jere Baker and his wife Diane; a sister-in-law Elvamae Baker; a brother-in-law Stan Bechtle; and a son-in-law Tim Dutton.
In addition to his parents, Harold is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, the former June Swingle; their daughter Tami Dutton; his brothers Rev. Donald Baker and Cliff Baker; and his sister Jean Bechtle.
A memorial service to pay tribute to Harold's life will take place at the Waymart Church 596 Honesdale Rd. Waymart, PA 18472 on Sunday, October 5th at 2 p.m.
Interment will take place at South Canaan Cemetery at a later date at the convenience of the family.
