Helen Barillo Maletsky

Helen Maletsky Barillo, 104, Lake Ariel, passed away peacefully January 30th, 2022 at home surrounded by her loving family.   She was the widow of Joseph A. Barillo.

Born March 27, 1917 in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Katerina Maletsky. Helen was educated in the New York schools.  Shortly after starting their family, Joe and Helen moved to Lake Ariel to raise their family.   Helen was a special woman who had a heart of gold.  Her love of family and friends was endless and she would always help anyone in need.  She will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to have known her.   She was of the Catholic faith.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to nurse’s aides, Susie Booths and Robyn Brozoski, along with the nurses and staff at Personal Home Healthcare and Hospice for the compassionate care and support they not only afforded Helen, but the entire family during the time Helen was in their care. The Barillo family would also like to acknowledge Helen’s grandson, Anton Gilpin, for his unwavering and devoted care he provided for his grandmother in her greatest time of need.

Surviving are daughters Sondra Varoli, New Jersey and Lorna Gilpin and husband, Donald, Lake Ariel; thirteen grandchildren;  seventeen great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and her canine companion Bella.

She was preceded in death by her sons Ronald Sr., Dennis, Gary, and Bruce; infant daughter Carol;  siblings Estelle, Tessie and Joseph Maletsky.

Funeral services will be Sunday at 2:30pm in the James Wilson Funeral Home, 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel by Rev. William Mentz, chaplain of Personal Home Healthcare and Hospice.

Friends may call Sunday from 1pm  until time of service at the funeral home.

Interment, East Canaan Cemetery.
