Johanna "Joan" Hendon

Johanna "Joan" B. Hendon, 84, of The Hideout, Lake Ariel, passed away on Saturday, January 17th at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. Her husband of 56 years is Ken Hendon.

Born in Plains Twp., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Nellie Borowski. She was a member of the St. Thomas More / St. Mary Parish Community. She was preceded in death by her brother Leonard Borowski

Johanna Borowski was a talented and driven young woman who loved to sing, so she made the state chorus.

She knew how to listen and learn so at 16 she graduated number one in her class.

She loved sports, so she became the secretary for the Football coach, the wrestling coach and the athletic director.

She was frugal, so this daughter of a coal miner, bought a new mustang.

Joan wanted the big college experience, so she enrolled at Penn State where she worked in the athletic office while earning her degree.

On a Tuesday morning, she met Ken. That Thursday they met for coffee and talked for hours. They kissed after he walked her back to the dorm.

Her amazing kiss propelled Ken to his dorm where a friend said "Look at Ken! He's in love!"

Their first date was Tobogganing that Saturday. And after relaxing by the fire and talking for hours Ken asked her to marry him. She made him wait for almost an hour before she said yes.

Joan was an awesome wife, sure there were situations, but she always had her eyes on their goals. Because of this they were able to travel the world and make friends everywhere.

Her favorite places were Poland and Haiti. In the square of old town Warsaw, over 500 people gathered to sing Polish songs with her.

The day before she died she asked Ken "How can I help you?"

After she passed her face had a beautiful glow.

Private cremation took place at the Lake Region Crematory in the James Wilson Funeral Home, Lake Ariel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 24th at 10:00am at St. Thomas More Church, 105 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel by Rev. Stephen Bosomafi, Pastor.
