John "Jack" Dietz, Dunmore, passed away in the Regional Hospital of Scranton after being stricken ill Sunday evening. His wife was Dolores A. Gdovin Dietz who passed away in 2011. The couple had been married for 54 years.
Born1935 in Scranton he was the son of the late John and Loretta Sheridan Dietz. He was educated in Scranton schools and went into the banking industry where he worked you have them for 42 years with the Citizens Savings Association where he moved up through the ranks and eventually served as president and chief executive officer. In his retirement, Jack volunteered his time with various groups including, St. Francis of Assisi Kitchen, Meals on Wheels, Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Habitat for Humanity as well as the Parish Council at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Dunmore. He attended Mass regularly at St. Paul's Church, his childhood parish. Jack served our country honorably in the United States Army.
Surviving are his son J. Patrick Dietz and his wife Christine and their children Ryan and Colin Dietz, Molly Dietz and her fiancé Erik Hubbard and Joe Dietz and his fiancé Ashley Tarabeck; daughter Ann Ebersol and her husband Merle and Ann's children Christopher, Leah and Nicholas Wasnetsky; daughter-in-law Alaina Dietz and her children Arielle and Dylan Dietz.
Jack was also preceded in death by his son Thomas Dietz; sister Joan Dietz; his companion Peggy Boland, who added much joy to Jack's life.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday March 24th at 10:00 AM in Saint Paul's church Penn Ave. Scranton.
Friends may call Monday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of Mass in the church
Interment will take place in the Mount Carmel cemetery, Dunmore.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to be made to St. Francis of Assisi kitchen 500 Penn Ave Scranton PA 18509 or to the St. Joseph's Center 2010 Adams Ave. Scranton, PA 18509
Arrangements have been entrusted to and are under the care and direction of the Vanston and James Funeral Home, Scranton.
