John Harry Fitz

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Harry Fitz on April 30, 2025, at the age of 76. His wife of 43 years is the former Kathleen C. MacDonald.

Born on September 4, 1948, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Franklin and Edna Gordon Fitz.

John was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, having been honorably discharged in 1971 after serving on the USS Forrestal during the Vietnam War.

After his military service, he worked with dedication at Thermolite as well as Heavenly Ham.

John loved doing yard work, watching squirrels and especially his dog Sadie.

Also surviving are his five adoring children Amy Stout and her husband Mark, Jodi Deeter, Megan Fitz and fiance Kevin Dougherty, John Fitz and his wife Paula, and Aeryn Fitz; grandchildren Eric and Brady Olsommer, Julianna Deeter and Benjamin and Sarah Fitz; sisters Sally Fitz, Martha Howell, Marie Barattucci and husband Tom and his brother Hugh Fitz and his wife Linda; nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by brothers William John and James Fitz.

The family will receive friends Tuesday May 6th from 4pm to 6pm at the Vanston & James Funeral Home, 1401 Ash St. Scranton. A brief memorial service will follow.
