John David HanceJune 18, 1981 – May 25, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John David Hance, age 43, who left us peacefully on May 25, 2025.
Though John’s time here was far too short, his spirit, kindness, and larger-than-life presence will live on in every heart he touched.
John was a man of deep passions and unwavering generosity. Whether it was whipping up something in the kitchen, debating about anything and everything, or getting his adrenaline fix through drag racing, he lived life on his own terms. He was unapologetically himself with a soundtrack of classic rock always playing in the background. A true Star Trek fan, he believed in exploring life with curiosity and courage, boldly going where others might hesitate.
His proudest and most cherished accomplishment was becoming a father to his only son, Wyatt Gavitt. John’s love for Wyatt knew no bounds.
John would do anything for anyone, no matter what. That simple truth defined who he was: selfless, dependable, and always showing up when it mattered most. In keeping with John’s loving and generous spirit, it was his decision to donate life through organ and tissue donation so that others may live.
He is survived by his beloved son, Wyatt Gavitt; his mother Debra Weiss; his father Robert Hance; three brothers Craig Wildfeuer, Michael Gavin, and Frederick Hance. The rest of those that loved and adopted him as their own: Deborah and Joseph Gavitt; his brother, lifelong friend, and roommate George Wagner. Also, he will be deeply missed by the many who considered him family: those at his job, his pride and joy, John’s Italian Restaurant in Hamlin, especially his boss and friend, Anthony Squatrito. John was Anthony’s “right-hand-man” and everyone knew it. His second home at R Place, the regulars and girls a Dunkin’ in Hamlin. His circle of love extended far and wide, built with laughter, loyalty, and a lot of heart.
John leaves behind a legacy of kindness, good food, unforgettable memories, and the kind of love that doesn’t fade. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Private cremation took place at Lake Region Crematory in the James Wilson Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 8th at 1:00PM in the James Wilson Funeral Home, 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel.
