John C. Menapace

John C. Menapace

John C. Menapace, The Hideout, Lake Ariel, passed away Wednesday evening under the care of Wayne Memorial Hospice in the Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale.   His wife of 40 years is the former Marian Rutkiewicz who was at his side during his last hours.

Born 1945 in Brooklyn, New York, he along with his brothers Joseph and Larry were the sons of the late Angelo and Rose Chanachuk Menapace and was educated in New York City Schools. John had been employed as a union truck driver and was a member of the Teamsters Local 707.  He was of the Catholic faith.  He served honorably in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany.

John loved the New York Mets with all his heart and will now assume the role as their angel in the outfield, rooting them to victory.   He was an avid golfer who had played in a Dupont Amateur Tournament and had sponsored 10 years of Beyond Brooklyn Tournaments in the Hideout.  He was an avid bowler, having a 300 game under his belt, as well as an accomplished pool shooter with many a trophy to attest to his skill.  He loved his two St. Bernards, Bridget and Molly, who had accompanied him everywhere during their short lives.

Surviving him are his beloved daughter Kathi Menapace, of Brooklyn; granddaughter Delores Rose; friend and sister-in-law Dolores Kohs and her husband Clarence “Butch” of Arizona; brother-in -law Frank Rutkiewicz of Georgia; sister-in-law Eileen of Maryland; nieces Elizabeth, Catherine and Barbara; nephews Travis and Robert; great nieces and nephews along with his St Bernard companion Max.

John was preceded in death by his brother Larry, nephews John and Jim and grandson, Michael.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday Nov 9 th at 10am in the St. Thomas More Church, Lake Ariel.

Friends may call Saturday morning from 9am until the time of Mass in the church.

Interment, St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ledgedale.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made St. Dominic’s Academy, 329 Cliff Street, Honesdale, PA 18431
