Joseph T. King Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and dedicated public servant, passed away on September 8, 2025, at the age of 81. He was born on January 26, 1944, in Jersey City, NJ, and was a long-time resident of Lake Ariel, PA. He was the son of the late Joseph and Adele King.
A proud veteran, Joseph enlisted in the United States Army on March 7, 1963, and honorably served his country during the Vietnam War. He achieved the rank of Specialist Fourth Class (E-4) before his discharge on March 6, 1969. His commitment to service did not end with his military career; Joseph devoted over two decades to law enforcement as a Patrol Sergeant with the Union City Police Department. He served his community with pride and honor, becoming a hero to many and a role model for future generations.
Joseph will be deeply missed, but his legacy of service, love, and kindness will endure in the hearts of all who knew him. .Joseph is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 22 years, Penny Rhodes King; his son, Joseph King and wife Denise; daughters Elisa Bradford and husband Christopher, Megan King, Samantha Long, Cassidy Penwarden and husband Jason; as well as many nieces and nephews, including his best pal Doug Miller; his cherished grandchildren, Renee, Denise, Nicole, Abigail, Anthony, LeAnna, Remedi, Vaida, Kobe, and Hayley; and his beloved great grandchildren, Eliana and Timothy. He is also survived by his sister, Kathleen, and her husband Frank Scibetta. brother in law John Rhodes, III and his companion Ann Sarnowski; sisters in law Tracy Rhodes, Tammy Grossman and her husband Bob and Wendy Kelly and her husband Tim.
Joseph was preceded in death by Infant brother Robert King; daughter Kathleen King; father and mother in law Ronald and Penny Rosengrant; father in law John A. Rhodes, Jr.
A celebration of Joe's life will be held Friday September 12, 2025, at 11am in the James Wilson Funeral Home 143 Gravity Road, Lake Ariel, PA.
Friends may call Thursday from 4-7pm and Friday morning from 10am until the time of the service in the funeral home.
Military honors will be rendered. Members of the Union City , New Jersey Police Department will stand guard at Joe's casket to honor his service and legacy with the department.
Cremation will follow in the Lake Region Crematory of the James Wilson Funeral Home, Lake Ariel. Interment of cremated remains will take place in the Simon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Legion Hricak-McAndrew Post 869 161 S. Main Street Archbald, PA. 18403.
