Obituary

Karen Lee Hazelton, of West Scranton, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026, at the age of 79. She was the daughter of the late William and Harriet Bird Banks.

Karen was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Her kindness and generosity were felt by all who knew her. She was known for her love of cooking and baking. Karen loved to celebrate every holiday. Her Christmas cookies will live on in the memories of friends and family. Karen loved music and was a lifelong, devoted fan of Elvis Presley and knew the words to every song. She had an extensive record collection, and her home was filled with Elvis memorabilia. Karen had a soft spot for animals, especially her beloved dog, Bailey, who was her constant companion.

Karen is survived by her sons Jeffrey Banks (Rose Shaffer), Robert Hazelton (Jacqueline), and Donald Hazelton (Carolann); her grandchildren Jeffrey and Alice Banks; Samantha Neishell (Ryan), Sydney, Nathan, and Courtney Hazelton; Evan Vitaletti, Alexander, and Connor Hazelton; and her great-grandsons Gavin and Lincoln Kreidler and Sawyer Neishell.

Karen was incredibly proud of her sons, their families, and her nephew and nieces along with their families. Her family will hold her close in their hearts as they remember the countless moments of laughter and joy she brought into their lives.

Karen was preceded in death by her sister Marjorie Bartels.

Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
