It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Linda Philbin, beloved wife, mother, Grammy, sister, aunt, and friend, of Lancaster, PA.
Those who knew Linda knew a woman of extraordinary resilience and even greater joy. She faced significant health challenges throughout her life and faced more hardship than anyone should bear - yet she met each setback with an unshakeable belief that she would come through it. That resolve never wavered. She carried it quietly and gracefully, never letting it define her. Instead, she chose to fill her days with the people and things she loved most - and that choice defined her entirely.
Linda adored her husband Jack, the love of her life and her partner of fifty-two years. She was a devoted mother who considered raising her two children one of her greatest callings, and when grandchildren came along, she embraced the title of Grammy with her whole heart. Family was everything to her and she was happiest when surrounded by the people she loved.
She spent twenty-five years in the jewelry departments at Watt & Shand and Bon Ton and dedicated many years as a teaching aide at Manheim Township School District - friendships from both that lasted a lifetime. Linda had a true gift for people. She moved through the world with a warmth that stayed with everyone she met - kindness wasn't something she practiced, it was simply who she was. She loved shopping, she loved talking with her sister and friends, and she was known to pick up the phone to place an order just for the joy of a good conversation.
Linda was preceded in death by her mother, Dolores; her father, Charles; her brother Charles "Slugger"; her beloved Aunt Helen and Uncle Paul, who helped raise her in Scranton, Pennsylvania; her step-mother, Roberta; and other aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She is survived by her husband, John "Jack" Philbin; her daughter Kaitlin and her husband Michael Timmons, and their children Aaron and Jacob; her son Patrick and his wife Christine, and their children Oliver, Henry, Callahan, and Jack; her sister, Nancy, and partner Lou; her step-sisters Carol and Debbie; her sister-in-law Joell and brother-in-law Joseph; and her nieces and nephews.
When life feels hard, think of Linda — everything she carried, and everything she chose to celebrate anyway.
Friends and family are invited to a viewing on Monday, April 27 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, followed by a Vigil from 7:00 to 7:30 PM, at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA.
In Scranton, a viewing will be held on Thursday, April 30 at 9:00 AM at Holy Rosary Church, 316 William Street, Scranton, PA, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Dunmore Cemetery, Dunmore, PA.
