Margaret (Walsh) Thomas, 94, died on Friday, July 25, 2025, at her home in Lake Winola.
Marge was born on October 5, 1930, to the late John and Marguerite Walsh of Scranton.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Paul Thomas.
Marge and Paul met as students of West Scranton High School. They went on to raise three children in West Side, a community that they both loved. Their doors were always open to family and friends, who made many happy memories in the Thomas house.
Marge and Paul later left West Side for Clarks Green and Lake Winola, but Marge's signature hospitality continued in their new communities. Their homes were the site of bridge games, lunches, grandchildren's birthday parties, holiday meals, and countless raucous games of ping pong. During their summers at Lake Winola, in particular, Marge happily hosted a constant stream of friends and family.
At the lake, Marge was a beloved member of the Factoryville Shore community and a frequent presence at the Scranton Canoe Club. She was an avid and talented golfer but appreciated the Canoe Club most for the hours she spent there with many dear friends.
Marge had a great sense of style, a quick wit, and was always an active and beloved presence in her communities. Her favorite roles, however, were those of wife and mother. They were roles in which she excelled. She was an incredible homemaker, in all senses of the word. Her home was always immaculate, but she never forgot that homes are meant to be lived in. Nothing delighted her more than to have hers filled with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They all adored her. She passed on to them her deep faith and many cherished family traditions.
Despite her winking protestation that he was "a nice quiet boy when she married him" when Paul would tease their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Marge's love for her high school sweetheart only grew throughout the seven decades they shared as husband and wife. Their love was the bedrock of their family and a model for their children and grandchildren. It is a comfort to them to know that Marge and Paul are now once more where they most loved to be-together.
Marge is survived by her three children: Sandy and her husband Denny McGraw of Clarks Green, Paul and his wife Cheryl of Naples, Fla., and Doug and his wife Cheryl of Tunkhannock; eight grandchildren: Lauren (McGraw) Abel, Kelly (Thomas) Niebrugge, Courtney (McGraw) Healy, Austin (Thomas) Kahari, Cara (Thomas) O'Malley, Kirby (Thomas) West, Tori (Thomas) Bussone, and Douglas Thomas; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, August 1st at 11:30am in the Church of St. Gregory, 330 N. Abington Rd. Clarks Green.
Friends may call Friday morning from 10am until the time of the Mass at the church.
