Mary Danchak, 93, passed away on December 13, 2025, after a brief stay at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore PA. Mary Danchak was born on May 9, 1932 in Scranton, PA, to Lorenzo Castellano and Philomena Castellano.
Mary was educated in the Scranton School District. She spent much of her life as a homemaker. She was later employed by the Scranton School District at Scranton Central High School as a Phys Ed Assistant.
Mary married Joseph Danchak on July, 28, 1956 in Scranton. The couple had 4 children, Victoria Knuth, Peter Danchak, Diane Lupia and Elaine Errico.
Mary was a guiding light. She gave sage advice, prepared endless meals, and loved her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren immensely. A lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church, Scranton, Mary was a devout Catholic. She was dedicated to St. Ann and always attended the Novena. She instilled that devotion to her children and grandchildren. She believed when you put God first in your life, the rest will follow.
Mary is survived by Victoria Knuth- daughter, and husband Martin, of Georgia, Peter Danchak - son, and wife Maggie Koehler of Clarks Summit, Diane Lupia-and husband Fred of Olyphant, Elaine Errico - daughter, and husband Gary Greenwald of Dunmore. Eight Grandchildren - Katelyn Danchak, Dunmore, Kristine Lupia, North Carolina, Rich Lupia and wife Michaela and great granddaughter's Avery and Brielle, North Carolina, Drs. Rachel Knuth Chien and Frank Chien, and great grandson Cameron, Georgia. Maria Errico Adamkovic and husband Trauger Adamkovic, Esq. Willow Grove, Abby Errico Duffy and husband Connor Duffy, Bethlehem, Paris Koehler, Pittsburgh and Trey Koehler, Delaware.
Mary is preceded in death by Joseph Danchak - husband, Lorenzo Castellano - father, Philomena Castellano - mother, Patricia Reilly Danchak - daughter-in-law, Victoria Santarsiero and Blanche Buttacci - sisters, and Donato, Charles, and Michael Castellano - brothers.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:30 am in the Immaculate Conception Church 800 Taylor Ave Scranton. Friends may call Wednesday morning from 9:30am until the time of the Mass at the church.
All attending the viewing and/or funeral are asked to maintain a sense of reverence by entering the church in silence and not loiter in the narthex but rather enter the sanctuary in the spirit of prayer and pray for Mary, her family and all of the dearly departed.
