Mary Spangenberg

Mary Spangenberg, 91 years old of Maplewood died after a brief illness. Daughter of the late Edgar W. Spangenberg and Dorothy M. Black Spangenberg.

Mary lived in the family home for her entire life and knew the members of the local community well. She spent her summers working in her yard. She remembered the olden ways of storing and preserving before refrigerators became commonplace. Mary could remember stories word for word that were handed down from her great grandparents and could tell you local history like it just happened. She provided information to a local historian who was writing articles on one room schoolhouses and ice houses.

In her younger years, Mary was a caretaker of elderly clients. She started working for her father providing lawn care service for several local cemeteries and families which she continued for years. She worked for David Elliott’s poultry Farm for 42 and ½ years and earned the respect of the owners and employees alike.

Mary was preceded in death by her brothers Donald and Edgar Spangenberg and her niece Lisa Castro.

Family would like to thank the staff at Wayne Memorial hospital for their compassionate care given to Mary in her final days. We are forever grateful.

Private interment in Maplewood Evangelical Cemetery.
