Mercedes Hawley

Mercedes Hawley, beloved wife, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. She was 74.

Mercedes was born on September 11, 1951, in Closter, New Jersey to Walter and Eileen (Costello) Hawley, where she lived most of her life. Mercedes worked for American SurgiSite Centers for 22 years before moving and retiring to Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania where she made a beautiful home for multiple beloved rescue dogs.

An avid reader and music lover; Mercedes loved 70's disco. She loved fishing and family and took great joy in being "the fun Aunt".

Mercedes is survived by her husband Dominick Basile, stepsons Anthony (Anella) and Ryan (Nicole) and grandchildren A.J., Adriana, and Luca; her sisters Margaret Ryan (Mike), Eileen Hawley, MaryAnne Catalano, Denise Scaglione and sister-in-law Jean Hawley; along with many nieces, and nephews and great-nieces and nephews who will forever miss their "Favorite Auntie Dee" and more cousins than can be counted. She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Eileen (nee Costello) Hawley, brothers Walter and James Hawley, brothers-in-law Ralph Scaglione and Charles Catalano.
