Michael H. Butler, current Dunmore School Board Vice President and a proud and lifelong resident of the borough, passed away early Tuesday morning in the Regional Hospital of Scranton with his family by his side. His wife of 50 years is the former Jacqueline Sheerer.

Born June 12, 1953 in Scranton, he was the son of the late James H.F. and Mary Elizabeth "Teensyee" Price Butler. He was a graduate of Dunmore High School's class of 1971 and went on to study at the Marymount College in Boca Raton, Florida. Michael worked his entire career in his family business, the Butler Casket Company where the Butler's served countless families in the greater Scranton - Wilkes-Barre - Hazleton area.

Michael served the Dunmore community for the past 37 years as a Dunmore School Board Member and was currently serving as vice president. Throughout his life, Mike enjoyed spending summers at his family home at Moosic Lakes. He had a quick-wit and an amazing sense of humor with a contagious laugh. He loved sitting out in his backyard reading the Sunday newspaper with an ice cold Miller Lite under the sun, walking the streets of Dunmore and Forest Hill Cemetery with his beloved dog, Coco. Mike loved to support his granddaughters in any way he could and beamed with pride while doing so. Mike was a loyal Eagles and Notre Dame fan, and a proud supporter of Dunmore Bucks sports. He was also a former member of the Elmhurst Country Club for many years. He will sadly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Also surviving are his children Natalie Butler King and her husband Thomas and Michael K. Butler; his beloved granddaughters who loved their Pop Pop with all their hearts Layla Elizabeth King and Eliana Frances King; his sister Kathleen M. Butler; his brother John Butler and his wife Lynne; his niece Marilyn Kristina Butler; numerous friends.

He was also preceded in death by his brother James Butler; an uncle, the Rev. Henry J. Butler, S.J.; aunts, Rosemary and Nancy Butler; and his mother and father-in-law Kenneth and Frances Sheerer.

The family would like to thank the staff at Allied Services Rehabilitation Hospital and especially, Gina Tomassoni, DPT for their care.
