Michael D. Sporer, 70, of Scranton, passed away peacefully at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore. 

Son of the late Alfred and Mary June Sporer, he is survived by his wife: Betsy (Behlke) Sporer, two children: Robert and wife Carla, and Michael, and grandson Jordan. He was also survived by his sister Sharon Jaworski who resides in Tequesta Florida and niece Amy McNulty and husband James.

 There are other family members, both blood and honorary, who are too numerous to mention. 

Mike attended Scranton Central High School and graduated from the University of Scranton in 1977 earning a BS Degree in business. He was chief financial officer at the CTC of Lackawanna County for 36 years before working as a consultant. Mike was a strong proponent of career and technical education and he had great respect for tradesmen. 

Mike was a strong advocate for children, people with disabilities, and animals. He was involved in nonprofits in the Scranton area including the MyCil Center for Independent Living and the Villa Capri Cruisers Car Club, Inc. having served on both operating boards. He enjoyed writing, nonprofit development, and car related events. 

The family would like to thank Mike's attendants and close friends Frank, Tish, Aundreah, Becky, Ashley, and Stephanie. The family also wishes to extend a special thank you to the Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their care of Michael in his final days. 

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to and are under the care and direction of the Vanston and James Funeral Home, 1401 Ash Street, Scranton. 

As per Mike's request, there will be no public services held. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the immediate family.
