"Miklós Pék passed away peacefully on January 26th at his home in Lake Ariel, PA surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Szombathely, Hungary on March 10th, 1937 to Miklós Pék and Erzsebet Kovács. Miklós had a loving, adventurous, and resilient childhood against the backdrop of World War II and the Communist Regime of Hungary. He fled Hungary in 1956, where he landed in an Austrian refugee camp and met the love of his life and surviving spouse, Margaret Pék. Miklós and Margaret traveled to the United States where they married, made a home for themselves in Queens, New York, and had a daughter, Monika Pék.
In his professional life, Miklós enlisted in the U.S. Air Force for four years and graduated from the Academy of Aeronautics in Queens, New York. Miklós had an array of skills where he worked in numerous trades; including, working as a jeweler, a watchmaker, and in computer operations.
Later in his life, Miklós had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with his three grandchildren; Monika, Zoltan, and Anna. Cooking for them, going on adventures with them, and being one of their primary caretakers in their childhoods.
Miklós was a traditional Catholic man who had an affinity for aviation, science, and astronomy. He was always amazed by the stars and the universe and was comforted by knowing, “We are all stardust.” May we always learn from his curiosity for life. May he rest in eternal peace and be forever free.”
