Patricia Louise Caruth

Patricia Louise Caruth, 89 of Sterling, passed away Saturday morning at home surrounded by family and her loving husband of 66 years, James Albert Caruth.

Born in Scranton, Patricia was the daughter of the late George and Vivian Hood – Hughes. She was a graduate of West Scranton High School and the Robert Packer School of Nursing.  Throughout her nursing career she was a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital in Scranton, Western Wayne School District, and Maternal and Family Health Services.  She was a member of the Salem Community Church,   Pennsylvania Order of The Eastern Star Harriet Greene Chapter 198, Republican Women of Wayne County, and the Red Hat Society.   She was always willing to get involved and work in her community.  She had countless friends and she volunteered her time and energy to assist in numerous township and county public service initiatives and held office in capacities such as the local election board in Sterling.    She cherished the nature and wildlife that surrounded her home but also had a zest for travel and she was fortunate to visit scores of exciting destinations in this country and others.  She loved her pets and always gave them great homes.  She adored dogs so much she raised four litters of shepherd puppies and tracked their lives with the new owners for decades.

Patricia took the most pride and joy in her children and grandchildren.  Her support of the family was unwavering.  She demonstrated that love and devotion in many ways, most notably in the kitchen continuously baking and cooking delights that brought much happiness to the home.   She embraced the endeavors of all her family members and would routinely step out of her comfort zone to help every member of the family pursue his/her interests.   She was truly a selfless individual.

Also surviving are her daughter, Jill McDade Binder and her husband Fred of Newtown, Pa; sons Mark Caruth and his wife Martha of Sterling and Kurt Caruth and his wife JoAnne of Sterling; grandchildren David, Adam, Elizabeth, Jimmy, and Owen; great grandchildren Ayden, Annabelle, and Lilah, nephews Stanley and Edward, and neice Amy.
