Phillip McGlynn, 87 of Wallenpaupack Lake Estates, passed away in the arms of his loving wife and daughter on Monday, June 19 th at Regional Hospital of Scranton following an illness. His beloved wife of 65 years is the former Jean H. Widitz.
Born in Weston, Pa, he was the son of the late Reuben and Rose Skoff – McGlynn. He was a graduate of Black Creek Township High School in Rock Glen, Pa. Prior to retirement, for 35 years he worked for the United States Postal Service in Manville, NJ as a Window Clerk. He was a member of the St. Thomas More / St. Mary’s Parish Community. He was a United States Army Veteran.
He played baseball and basketball in high school and went on to play baseball on the Brooklyn Dodgers farm team as a pitcher in Hornell, NY. He played softball for many years after that. with friends and as an avid sports fan watched various sporting events. He was a big Penn State football fan.
He loved working the daily crossword puzzle of the Times Tribune, played poker and pinnacle He loved watching golf, football, basketball, baseball and tennis. He loved to golf for most of his adult life.
He looked forward to watching his grandsons Zachary waterski competitively in Monroe, NY and Mitchell race competitive downhill mountain biking at Mountain Creek Ski Resort in Vernon, NJ when they were younger.
He was a member of the WLE recreation committee and a member of the WLE golf team. Over the years he volunteered at many community groups and activities in NJ and PA. He loved to take his boat out on Lake Wallenpaupack, eat, have a beer and relax.
Also surviving are his daughter Dr. Colleen Rose Kachele of Hewitt, NJ ; daughter-in-law Carmen McGlynn of Belvidere, NJ; grandchildren Zachary (Allison) of Arvada, CO; Mitchell Kachele of Oak Ridge, NJ; sister-in-law Joann Widitz; nephews Dennis (Kendra) Mummey; Scott (Karen) Mummey; Vern Mummey and Todd (Donna) Widitz.
He was preceded in death by his son Brian Phillip McGlynn; sister Jeanette Mummey; brother William McGlynn and brother-in-law Edward Widitz
Private cremation took place at Lake Region Crematory in the James Wilson Funeral Home, Inc.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday July 14, 2023 at Noon in St. Mary’s Church, 315 St. Mary’s Church Rd. Lake Ariel.
Inurnment with Military Honors, St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ledgedale.
