Ronald Burrell Shaffer

Ronald Burrell “Buckshot” Shaffer, 92, of S. Canaan Township, died Wednesday at Regional Hospital Scranton following an illness. Ronald is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lois Miller Shaffer.

Born in South Canaan on January 7, 1926, son of the late Loren and Rena Keil Shaffer, Ronald graduated from Waymart High School in 1942, served in the United States Army during World War II in both the European and Pacific theaters, and worked for the C.C. Shaffer Lumber Company on his return. He received his bachelor’s degree from Shelton College in 1954 and his Master’s degree from Glassboro State College in 1973. Ronald taught in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, for 25 years and retired in 1987 to move back to South Canaan. During his long life, Ronald used his curiosity, love of tinkering, and wisdom in the service of his family, church, and community. He served on the Bible Protestant Mission Board for 32 years, and enjoyed woodworking and traveling.

Also surviving are his son Robert and wife Jo Anne of New Britain, PA, his daughter Patricia Samuelsen and husband Dale of Sugar Land, TX, his son Gary and wife Susan of Dayton, NJ, his grandchildren Wayne Shaffer, Ryan Samuelsen, Meagan Samuelsen, Lauren Samuelsen, Rachel Shaffer, and Sarah Shaffer, his sister-in-law Vera Shaffer, of Cumberland, MD, his brother Russell and wife Betty of Varden, PA and his sister-in-law Joan Shaffer of  Clayton, NC.

Ronald was preceded in death by his brothers Gerald and James.

Friends may call Sunday on June 3 rd from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Canaan Bible Chapel, 30 Hemlock Road, Lake Ariel, PA 18436 .

Funeral services will be held at the same location on Monday, June 4 at 9:00am, with Pastor Daniel Henwood officiating.

Interment, East Canaan Cemetery, South Canaan.
