Thomas Neary

Thomas Neary, 74, of Newfoundland, known as “Tom-Cat” in the larger cities where he worked, passed away on Wednesday, November 8 at home.

Born in Philadelphia, PA in 1949, he was the son of the late Michael and Dorothy Neary and was educated in Philadelphia Arch-diocesan schools.

After joining the workforce, Tom found his calling as an ironworker “building America” in several large cities, “looking on the backs of birds” atop skyscrapers, before settling at Local 489.

He was a proud American, and an active member of the NRA.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, the former Kim Kovaleski; daughters Natasha Neary and significant other Steven Mulcahy, and Nadia Neary; grandchildren Levi, Genesis, Abner, Haven and Nora.

To his family…Tom was a man of sacrifice and hard work – living on the bare minimum so his family would never have to. He did so while building America and the home he raised his family in. Years later he used those same principles and two hands to renovate his dream farm.

To everyone else… Tom was a very private man but will be remembered as a man with a solid work ethic, a man filled with pride, empathy, loyalty, and common sense: a local legend, a force to be reckoned with, and an incredibly kind-hearted person.

“Take the time to go see the ones you love, take the time to talk to them, take the time to say I love you, take the time to remind someone how amazing they are, take the time because we don’t get a lot of it and it can be taken away in an instant.  This is not goodbye, but see you soon.”
