Walter J. Barhight, 96, a proud lifelong resident of Wayne Street in Carbondale, died Sunday morning at the home of his daughter in Scott Township.  His beloved wife, Marion Morgan Barhight died November 15, 2019.  The couple was married in 1951.

Born 1927 in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Loren and Catherine Adolph Barhight.  He was a graduate of Carbondale schools and went on to serve honorably in the United States Army during World War II.  Upon receiving his honorable discharge, Walter went on to work for the D and H Railroad as a mechanic for 40 years, the only job he would ever have.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Carbondale.

Surviving are his children, Barbara Conniff of Scott Twp. with whom Walter resided, Nancy Barrese and her husband Ralph of Richmond, Rhode Island, and Robert Barhight of East Berlin, PA; grandchildren Shawn Conniff and his wife Lisa, Jeff Barrese and his wife Rachael, Daniel Barhight and his wife Kami, Bridget Barhight and spouse Dylan and James Barrese and his wife Raina; great grandchildren Brianna and Sarah Conniff, and Raylan Barhight; nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his son in law Gordon Conniff and his brother William Barhight.

Graveside services with military honors will be held Saturday at 11am in the Canaan Corners Cemetery 242 Owego Turnpike Waymart, PA 18472.
