William Arroyo

William Arroyo of Lake Ariel died Monday at Geisinger Community Medical Center following an illness. His wife is the former Samia Salama.

Born and raised in the Bronx, New York, he was the son of Miguel and Rosa Velasquez Arroyo. William Arroyo came from a family of 10 siblings. He worked in the banking and accounting industry the majority of his life. He had a great love of R&B music and DJ’d in NY in his younger years. The father of 3 sons, he later married and moved to northeast Pennsylvania. He was a sports enthusiast who loved basketball, football and boxing and he loved and collected movies. William was known for his very quick wit and incredible ability to make people laugh in any situation. He was a very strong, honest, hard-working, loving father, family man and husband, and he was extremely proud of his Puerto Rican roots. He was a good friend and known for his generosity and compassion. William will be forever mourned by his wife, sons, siblings, family, friends and all those whose lives he touched.

Also surviving are sons William, Jr. of Union City NJ, Anthony of Jersey City, NJ, and Robert of Henderson, NV; stepsons George Burdette, Jr. of Tuscon, AZ, Omar Simmons and Naji Simmons both of Lake Ariel; sisters Elizabeth Kaplan of Tampa, FL and Deborah Arroyo of Puerto Rico; brothers Angelo of Dumont, NY, George of Orlando, FL, and Paul of New York, NY; 5 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

A Blessing Service will be held Friday at 10:00am in the James Wilson Funeral Home 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel.

Friends may call Wednesday from 4:00-7:00pm and Thursday from 4:00-7:00pm.

Interment, Salem Cemetery, Hamlin, PA.
